Public Trustee

The Public Trustee (who also serves as the County Treasurer) is a statutory officer elected by the voters of Rio Blanco County every four years.

The Office of the Public Trustee is responsible for overseeing foreclosure sales and releases of deeds of trust on properties within Rio Blanco County.

• • performs all functions related to deeds of trust releases as directed by Colorado State Statutes.
  • releases deeds of trust whenever requested by a beneficiary or by a legal holder of the indebtedness.
  • performs foreclosures on deeds of trust in an orderly and timely fashion as directed by Colorado State Statute.
  • preserves all foreclosure records to remain open for inspection by the public.
  • charges the correct fees for processing all documents and to post all collections to the proper accounts.
  • delivers all documents that are processed by the Public Trustee to the County Clerk and Recorder for recording as public record.

As of January 1, 2015 all Colorado newspapers are required to post their legal notices to the Public Notice Colorado website. The Public Notice Colorado website has information for every county and city in Colorado that publishes legal notices.
