Colorado license plates are the property of the vehicle's  original owner. They do not transfer to the buyer when the vehicle is sold, however owners may transfer plates from a traded or sold vehicle to their newly purchased vehicle. To transfer plates, bring the plates and registration from your old vehicle to the office. Owners may also choose to purchase new plates

Types of License Plates

Visit Colorado's myDMV Online to view plate types and requirements. Some plates require a donation.

Basic plate types are available in the county office, and others are only available through the state office through a process that's known as Print On Demand.

Print on Demand: The Print on Demand Process reduces county inventories, expense and waste. Print on Demand plates are printed- on demand- after they are ordered.

Personalized Plates are available for an additional fee.  Customers requesting personalized plates will need to prepare 3 versions for our office.  The State may reject your request if the number/letter sequence is already taken, or it may deny your request.
