The Budget & Finance Department works with  management to prepare an appropriate and fiscally responsible annual budget in compliance with Colorado Revised Statutes Title 29, and to administer the adopted budget accordingly.

The Department:

  • provides accurate, timely and useful financial information and services for the County's internal management.
  • provides public accountability in financial reporting with accurate records of all transactions, prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, and applicable state statutes/federal regulations.
  • maintains internal control systems and assist all departments in complying with responsibilities for proper and legal fiscal management.

Services Provided

The Budget Division prepares, controls and maintains compliance with Colorado Budget Law.

The Financial Division ensures the County’s books are in order for annual review under Colorado Audit Law. It also:

  •  prepares the annual financial statements
  •  performs daily financial functions including accounts payable/receivable and payroll processing.
  • monitors the financial transactions of individual contracts and capital projects
  • records fixed assets, tracks grant activity, watches fund balances, and scrutinizes account details
  • provides support and advice to the Board of County Commissioners, elected officials and operating departments related to financial issues, policy and strategic planning.
