Rio Blanco County Commissioners reaffirmed their position regarding state mandates and on September 28, 2021 approved resolution 2021-21 to oppose vaccination as a condition of employment for the county employees. The County will not use its limited resources to enforce vaccine or mask mandates. This resolution will apply to State and Federal mandates. Additionally on September 14, 2021 Commissioners provided letters of opposition to Governor Jared Polis and Colorado Department of Public Health regarding vaccine mandates for staff at health care and nursing facilities. Commissioner Gates stressed that he “is not pro-vaccine or anti-vaccine” but that he “is against mandates that interfere with personal health decisions.” Rio Blanco County’s position regarding COVID mandates has always been and will continue to be non-enforcement and to encourage individuals to make appropriate and educated decisions for themselves.
